DETAILS
After an exciting and successful 30-year career in show-business, Barbara DiPrima
is heralded as Florida’s premiere casting director.
Her notoriety is global, and
throughout the entertainment and advertising industries, her influence has shaped
countless careers and enhanced thousands of films, print advertisements, television
commercials, music videos, and more. DiPrima’s talent base is both domestic and
international, with names such as Elton John, Robert Redford, Michael J. Fox, and
Gloria Estefan among her satisfied clients. DiPrima has helped shape show-business
and the casting industry with her trail-blazing services, and has ushered many to
success with her sharp acumen and key contacts. Barbara has enjoyed casting for
industry giants such as Coca-Cola, Disney, the NFL, the NBA, Burger King, Visa,
MasterCard, American Express, Revlon, IBM, Proctor & Gamble, and famed advertising
agencies such as BBDO, J.Walter Thompson, Lowe/Lintas, D’arcy, Foote, Cone &
Belding, McCann Erickson, and many more.
Barbara established DiPrima Casting in 1978 in Miami, Florida, after her agent suggested
that she launch a casting career using the unique insight and industry “know-how”
that she developed while working as an actor, model and dancer. The industry climate
was ready for Barbara at that time, as many film and commercial productions relocated
from California and New York to Florida due to the Screen Actors Guild strike in
1978. As a result, the Florida market was saturated and clients which came to DiPrima
Casting in droves. Barbara’s ability to match talented individuals with perfectly
suited roles was apparent, and she swiftly became a leading force in the show-business
industry, with an impressive list of clients.
By 1982, DiPrima’s expertise and track record of success was well-known. She was
sought by agencies in South Florida and beyond, and was commissioned by several
agencies in Orlando to conduct workshops to prepare their enlisted talent for television
commercial auditions. Barbara was the first Casting Director to offer services of
this kind, and the workshops were an instant hit. As a result, an extremely marketable
talent pool was created in the Orlando area, and Barbara soon established another
DiPrima casting studio in Orlando to meet these demands. She was sought by Universal
Studios, and served as Universal Orlando’s their first-ever Casting Director. Since
that time, Barbara has been fully devoted to her studios, workshops and scouting
efforts, and she has developed a long career that has been both fruitful and wildly
interesting.
Over the course of her career, Barbara has successfully operated permanent studios
in Miami’s Studio Center, Coconut Grove’s Mayfair, Universal Studios (Orlando) and
currently operates three
studios: one in the chic and electrifying South Beach, one in Miami and the third in the funky
and artistic mountain town of Banner Elk, North Carolina.
Over the span of her long career, Barbara has discovered many varieties of remarkable
people, perfectly suited for niche roles, and her scouting efforts have taken her
to fascinating locations. DiPrima has traversed the orange groves of Florida in
search of growers for a Tropicana campaign; interviewed exceptionally talented children
for McArthur Milk, met with professional baseball players at their spring training
facilities for endorsement deals, combed the mountain villages of North Carolina
for the perfect Miller Lite™ icon, and has even evaluated dogs for a grass commercial.
“I’ve seen it all. The list goes on and on,” says DiPrima, “and that’s what keeps
it so fun.”
DiPrima attributes her wild success to her love for what she does. Barbara still
enjoys conducting television commercial workshops and reports that she is continually
enthused by her work with aspiring actors and experienced actors, creating marketable
talent in them and demonstrating the on-camera skills and techniques that will set
them apart and lead to lucrative careers. The DiPrima Casting empire continues to
grow as Barbara keeps her hand in all types of casting: feature films (DiPrima was
recently involved with the 2006 blockbuster, Miami Vice), radio ads, print ads and
television commercials.
The DiPrima’s are currently celebrating more than 30 years in the casting and entertainment
industry, and they reportedly love their work more than ever. Barbara’s continued commitment to her studios and workshops
– will keep the DiPrima name at the top of the industry for years to come.
